Boys & Girls AEGON 2017 Team Report
This year Haddenham Tennis Club (HTC) entered the Bucks AEGON Junior tennis league for the first time in four years with the Boys 12 & under and Girls 16 & under teams.
Both teams were in Division 2 and matches are played during the summer.
The Boys 12 & under team was managed by Roly Meddows-Taylor while the Girls 16 & under by Graham Carter and many thanks to them both for all their efforts in organising the matches and getting their teams to the various locations and organising refreshments & teas.
The boys had five teams in their division, playing Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, Stony Stratford & Long Crendon while the girls had six & played Beaconsfield, Wooburn Park, Aylesbury, Chesham Bois and Gerrards Cross Bull Lane.
Boys 12 & Under
The boys team consisted of Dan Meddows-Taylor & Theo Carter who are both new to tournament tennis, but have experience of playing in the HTC Junior Club Finals. The boys took to match play like ducks to water and remarkably recorded wins against all the teams. winning their league and securing promotion to Division 1 next year. What a great achievement and congratulations to Dan and Theo, possible future stars?
In the individual statistics, the boys showed their dominance with Dan Meddows-Taylor topping the rankings with 14 sets for & 1 against, closely followed by Theo Carter with 13 sets for & 2 against.
Quite a remarkable achievement for the boys and so great to seeing them enjoying themselves and being so enthusiastic about their tennis. Hearty congratulations to Dan and Theo.
Girls 16 & Under
The girls team consisted of Elina (Ellie) Gorrings & Holly Carter and although also new to tournament tennis, enjoyed the matches and got better as the season unfolded,  turning in some superb results, recording wins against Beaconsfield, Wooburn Park and Aylesbury. They lost a close match against Chesham Bois, but were a bit outclassed against a very strong Gerrards Cross Bull Lane side in their first match.
In the final two matches of the season Holly Carter and Ellie Gorringe played Aylesbury at home and Chesham Bois away.  The girls recorded a stunning 6-0 victory over Aylesbury and travelled to the final fixture where there was a chance of clinching the league.  Unfortunately we just missed out despite Ellie Gorringe nearly getting us over the line with a hard fought singles victory.  Overall the team finished joint top on points, with three other teams. However, when set win / loss ratios were taken into account, Gerrards Cross Bull Lane topped the league and Haddenham finished in fourth place.
In the individual player statistics for all the players, Ellie was ranked second with 14 sets for & 8 against & Holly a creditable sixth with 11 sets for & 12 against.
For their first season of competitive league tennis, the girls should be congratulated.  Not only did they win some tough and exciting matches but they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and both have started competing in the adult leagues. Well done Holly and Ellie! a fantastic result for the individuals and the teams!
Pictures of both the teams are attached.
Well done to all, you have done Haddenham Tennis Club proud  and wishing you every success for next season!
